Peter Look At Me!

There is an issue for Christian leaders that resurfaces again and again as we lead. This issue is surrender. For each one of us this surrender will look differently than another leader. We may receive the same gifts, but we utilize the gifts in many different areas and in many different ways. In this surrender we must always focus on what God is giving each one of us to do for him, not the path or surrender required of another leader.  I am reminded of these words to Peter as Jesus reinstated him. In this conversation, Peter begins to object and places his eyes and thoughts on John.

Jesus finishes this conversation with Peter and begins to question him if he loves him. The conversation continues to go back and forth between Jesus and Peter. (John 21:15-18)

v. 19b, Then Jesus told him (Peter) follow me."

V. 20-22, Peter turned around and saw the disciple Jesus loved following them--the one who leaned over to Jesus during supper and asked, "Lord, who among us will betray you?" Peter asked Jesus, "What about him, Lord?" Jesus replied, "If I want him to remain alive until I return, what is that to you? you follow me."

Words for today, if we apply this to ourselves as leaders we see that, Jesus desired Peter to focus on what God was giving him to do, not the life of John. We can sum this up in these simple words, "Peter surrender to me, follow me and get your eyes off of John."

Question for leaders today- Are my eyes focused on another leader and what they are doing?

If the answer is yes, then it probably is time to spend some personal prayer time with God and in his word. He will place us back on his path if we listen to the still small voice. In the midst of this, surrender, the life God has for each one of us is the best, blessed and perfect place to be.
